Dickey Lee and Kerry Chater wrote "You're the First Time I've Thought About Leaving" and Reba McEntire recorded and released it in January 1983 as the third single from her album Unlimited. Produced by Jerry Kennedy, the song spent fourteen weeks on the charts and went to Number 1 on the US Billboard Country chart and Number 5 in on the Canadian RPM Country charts and was the second Number 1 from the album.
